Expanding Evidence Approaches for Learning in a Digital World - Big Data

The US DOE has very recently provided a draft report (and are asking for comment) titled Expanding Evidence Approaches for Learning in a Digital World.  The report discusses the promise of sophisticated digital learning systems for collecting and analyzing very large amounts of fine-grained data (“big data”) as users interact with the systems.

The draft report describes Big Data as  a dataset or collection of datasets so large and complex that standard data management tools  perform analyses and other tasks such as capturing, storing, searching, sharing, and visualizing information.

  • What data does your district consider to be big data for your work with students?
  • Share how your district may be associating learning resources with students based on types of data.
